# Unzer configuration

Learn how to retrieve API keys and configure your Unzer merchant account.

To start accepting payments, you need an active Unzer merchant account and the API key pair for your project.

### Retrieving API Keys

1. Sign in to your account at [Unzer Insights](https://insights.unzer.com/).
2. In the left navigation menu, navigate to **Configuration > API Keys** (or **Developers > API keys**).
3. Click on your project name to expand its details.
4. Copy the following two keys for use in your Phoca Cart payment method configuration:
   * **Private API Key**
   * **Public API Key**

**API Key Formats:**

* **Sandbox / Test Mode:**
  * Private key begins with: `s-priv-...`
  * Public key begins with: `s-pub-...`
* **Production / Live Mode:**
  * Private key begins with: `p-priv-...`
  * Public key begins with: `p-pub-...`

Make sure you always use a matching pair of keys (both starting with `s-` for testing or both starting with `p-` for live operations).

### Payment Methods

Unzer supports a wide variety of payment methods, including credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), PayPal, Klarna (Pay Later, Slice It, Pay Now), SEPA Direct Debit, Sofort, iDEAL, and more.

To activate or request specific payment methods for your merchant account, please contact your Unzer account manager or the Unzer support team directly.

There is no need to configure individual payment methods inside Phoca Cart. Once a payment method is enabled in your Unzer merchant account, it automatically becomes available on the Hosted Payment Page according to the customer's currency, country, and eligibility.

### Webhook Notifications

Webhooks inform Phoca Cart about payment status updates in real time (e.g., `payment.completed` and `payment.canceled`).

The plugin **automatically registers webhooks via the Unzer API** upon processing the first checkout transaction using your configured API keys. You do not need to register webhook URLs manually in Unzer Insights. You can, however, view and monitor registered webhooks in your Unzer Insights dashboard at any time.
